WC2014 Day 14 Argentina 3 Nigeria 2

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Twenty one keen footballers, but one was even keener,
dancing past defenders like a male ballerina,
a Lamborghini up against a battered Ford Cortina,
filling up the senses like a bottle of retsina,
a leopard causing panic in the heart of the hyena,
slicing through the back four like a knife through semolina,
a baby-faced assassin with an innocent demeanour,
like a deux that has been fired crisply ex machina.
Their touch was often clean but his was very often cleaner –
he seemed to be a man apart, fitter, faster, leaner.
Voodoo doesn’t stop him, nor does saying a novena,
poster boy of every man and every signorina
that came to watch their hero in the jubilant arena.
No wonder Messi is a god back home in Argentina.
