WC2014 Day 17 Colombia 2 Uruguay 0

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Colombia passed slickly,
pushed the team in blue back quickly
with tenacity and not a little flair,
knocked the ball around precisely
and kept it most concisely,
the Uruguayans grasping at thin air.
Young Rodriguez gained his fame
as he lit the yellow flame.
The blue attack was lame,
somewhat toothless, rather lame,
But it was a rotten shame
that this most absorbing game
was all about the man who wasn’t there.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 As the final whistle sounded,
‘what if?’ arguments abounded
as Uruguay reacted with despair.
They had been unjustly treated,
many twittered, many tweeted,
and boy, it was incredibly unfair.
The FIFA lads had picked him
and decided to convict him.
The Italian had tricked him.
Why, poor Luiz barely licked him.
In truth, they should depict him
as the poor and sorry victim –
they lost due to the man that wasn’t there.
