WC2014: Day 29 rest day

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 World Cup Semi-Final
Argentina 0 – 0 Netherlands

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A lack of bottle
Unwilling to take first kick
All bar Vlaar

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 ~ # ~

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 If you torture the ball long enough, it will confess
A succession
Of the sideways swipes
The backwards belt
The hospital hit
The lazy lump
The bilious bikey

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 A piece of stretched leather
can only take so much
soon enough, it will scream…
“me no likey!”

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Last night, only one man treated it with respect
Caressed it with care
Only one that wanted possession
Who had, the requisite ball obsession

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Only one, who kept it tied to his feet
So as to protect it
From sharpened studs
From hacking charlatans
From thundering tyros
The only one
Who had us, those armed with biros
Scribbling our affirmation
Of admiration

Notes

Based on this great quotation:

“If you torture the data long enough, it will confess.”

Ronald Coase – Economist

Although in truth, even Messi was quiet – in fact, in emerged today from the statfest, that he hadn’t even touched the ball in the Dutchbox all game!!!

The haiku based on the revelation that emerged today, that two Dutch players refused to take the first penalty, which Ron Vlaar subsequently had saved by Romero.

Pity, because Vlaar was about the only player that came out of that game with any new admirers.
