WC2014 Day 3 England 1 Italy 2

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Once more into the breach, two ancient foes
throw tired and heat-sapp’d bodies to the fray –
thrust and parry, charge, retreat and close
till, spent, they part to fight another day.
Stout Pirlo, still with magic in his toes;
young Sterling, charging headlong through the play;
sharp Sturridge, full of courage, come what may;
and Mario, deliv’ring England’s woes.
At crucial times, perhaps, defenders froze;
at times attackers seemed to lose their way.
Albion’s star eclipsed, the other rose
but millions hailed an honourable display.
Unlike Phil Neville, both sides did compose
sweet poetry instead of turgid prose.

Notes

Kudos to both teams for a thrilling match
