WC2014: Qual: Trapdoor

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 If there’s a legacy to his leaving
It’s a great song resurrected
It’s not that we’re grieving
For his dignity is respected

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “Time to say Goodbye”
Sing Brightman and Bocelli
If there’s a tear to the eye
It’s the exit as we watch telly

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Now’s the time for change
To plot a new direction
Martin O’Neill the early favourite
All contenders up for dissection

Notes

Time to say Goodbye – by Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli
One of the greatest songs of all time.
Its title so apposite.
Plus it has an operatic aria, fitting for an Italian – Giovanni Trapattoni – and his entourage.
Played at least twice on the airwaves the day after Ireland lost away to Austria, thereby ending their hopes of Qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Mr Trapattoni & his coaches were relieved of their duties ‘by mutual consent’ yesterday.

Dignity:
Following his departure as Republic of Ireland boss, Giovanni Trapattoni said: “I want to thank everyone in Ireland who has given us their support during our time here which has always meant a lot to us.”

“We leave this country with emotion because we understand the Irish supporters who have a well-deserved international reputation and they have our utmost respect.”
