When England Take On Italy

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 endless years of desparation
time to lower expectation
maybe a dog is what we need
to teach us how to hold a lead
we better not play prettily
when England take on Italy

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 perhaps the reason that we fail
is just like in that fairy tale
we have the coach to take us all
but never want to go to the ball
I hope we don’t play timidly
when England take on Italy

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Oh Italy oh Italy
you’ve always been a bity dodgy
your Cosa Notra Mafia show
your match fixing you’re so macho
your Berlusconi Mussolini
and your stickers from Panini
we love your cappuccino creamy
and biscotti with linguini
so why do we play dismally
whenever we play Italy

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 your panacotta tiramasu
your pasta and spaghetti too
and we all know it’s just a drag
we can’t compete with our tea bag
which when we’re making up a brew
stays in the cup longer than we do
no wonder I sleep fitfully
before we take on Italy.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 the way you dress so full of class
your girls on mopeds as they pass
your waitresses all look so dreamy
in their polka-dot bikinis
I feel like a little boy
I sent these verses off to Roy
and though I know he likes a poem
I’ve just found out I am not going
I’ll change my name to Felicity
if England conquer Italy
