When England Take On Paraguay

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I cannot sleep I cannot think
I cannot eat I cannot drink
I have no strength to pump my bike
and people ask me what I’m like
I cannot find a soul to blame
awake they cry it’s just a game
I watch the seconds ticking by
’til England take on Parguay

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 it’s more important than my cat
my shed my cottage and my hat
thank God my partner understands
and hasn’t left for foreign lands
my work my poems and my wife
O England you’ve kidnapped my life
I’m nervous but i don’t know why
and all because of Paraguay

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 o Paraguay o Paraguay
in South America you lie
all squeezed in like a concertina
between Brazil and Argentina
your people cheering in Gurarani
the Great Escape- the barmy army
I’m confident but I’m not sure
unlike the flag-decked house next door
my voice and pen will all run dry
before we take on Paraguay

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 when England take on Paraguay
there will not be a redder eye
I’ve waited now these four long years
O please don’t let it end in tears
in sixty-six I danced around
the crazy streets of London town
I wonder if I’ll feel as proud
inside some smokey pub in Stroud
I’ll glue my ears up to Five Live
to keep that faith and dream alive
and text the world to comfort me
if I’m away from my TV
St George’s Cross will fly so high
when England take on Paraguay
