When football was football

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 When football was football
and gender was nowt,
every lunchtime,
like a shot I was out.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 To the field of green,
where dreams were made,
goals scored (or not!),
and football was played.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We would run en masse,
to our make shift pitch,
we played to allieviate,
the football itch.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 We’d chuck two jumpers
down as posts,
argue over who
had scored the most.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And my team,
they would always win,
partly because,
I let nothing in.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 But credit due to Becca,
who was very quick,
and never failed to get,
a well-deserved hat-trick.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 We were girls,
it mattered not.
We played the best,
respect we got.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 I’m in high school now,
and we’ve been split,
it does annoy me
just a bit.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 These days games,
are not the same,
now I must prove worthy,
again and again.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Oh those green fields,
we invaded each day,
to be judged only,
on how well we could play.

Incidently, any GKs among the Eds? just wondering.

Ed’s reply : (Clik)

Yes, I played in every position, at junior and senior level.
I was deemed a specialist keeper for 5-a-side competitions – probably ‘cos I was the smallest !

And Crispin answers the question most adroitly with his response :
Please Don’t Stick Me In Goal
