When football was football
and gender was nowt,
every lunchtime,
like a shot I was out.

To the field of green,
where dreams were made,
goals scored (or not!),
and football was played.
¶ 3

We would run en masse,
to our make shift pitch,
we played to allieviate,
the football itch.

We’d chuck two jumpers
down as posts,
argue over who
had scored the most.
¶ 5

And my team,
they would always win,
partly because,
I let nothing in.
¶ 6

But credit due to Becca,
who was very quick,
and never failed to get,
a well-deserved hat-trick.

We were girls,
it mattered not.
We played the best,
respect we got.

I’m in high school now,
and we’ve been split,
it does annoy me
just a bit.

These days games,
are not the same,
now I must prove worthy,
again and again.

Oh those green fields,
we invaded each day,
to be judged only,
on how well we could play.
