When I saw that Ball go in

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Well, it was four forty-three,
Sure, you know what I mean –
Just two mins of normal time left on the clock.
So how could we hope to bag three points,
When we had not mustered a shot?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Then it was four forty-four,
Do I need to say more?
Just one minute of the game remained to play.
So what chance had we of a vict’ry,
With time ticking so fast away?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Then came a thirty-yard drive,
And the Keeper he dived,
But he could not get his fingers to that thing.
Now I can’t describe how I felt then,
When I saw that ball go in!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Oh, I just leapt out me seat,
And I stood on me feet,
Punched the air, yelled till I’d wholly lost my breath.
I could not believe that we’d done it –
That we’d won that match at the death.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And my heart went “boom”
In the floodlit gloom,
As the truth slowly sank in…

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Then we danced in the streets,
And we had something to eat.
But, as you might guess, we had much more to drink.
Well, would you have done any diff’rent,
If you’d seen that last-gasp win?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Football’s a game of two Halves,
And you know how long it lasts –
Ninety mins, with perhaps three or four thrown in.
So don’t give up hope, keep the faith there,
You just might see that ball go in…
