On sojourns away
Terrace soothsayer’s say:
“A travelling goal should suffice”.
Then the cynics amongst us
Put you down in the dumps with:
“Yeah but… tonight could be one of them nights”

As baying partizan fans
Holding flares in their hands
Give abuse to the boys on the field.
We’ve him protecting the sticks
Makes all kinds of ricks
Thus exposing our Achilles heel.

Then the man in the black
Won’t confirm or detract
That their scorer was two miles offside?
As his partner in crime
Who’s alleged runs the line
Seeks a flagpole behind which to hide.

Then the dug-out erupts
Travelling boss does his nut
At misdemeanour he’s seen on the pitch.
Then confronts fourth official
Him what refs with no whistle
For explanation for what was injustice.
¶ 5

When fourth ref sheds no light
On concerns or his plight
Will boss angrily storm back to his seat?
Then like us right put out fans
Prepare contingency plans
For the return leg at our place, next week?
