Where Have All The Hangers On…Gone?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Fair weather friends and hangers on
Like snowballs dissappear
When thaw comes on, the money’s gone
And not one, so called friend (sic) comes near.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Life and soul of many parties
The dentist chair, those burps
We stood and cheered him daft,
As he, was us out on that turf.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Green with envy, oh we cheered
Well gutted, when he cried
That pain of just how close to winning
We were near, still rankles deep inside.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 We look away and flick the switch
“I’m not watching that”.
That generous smile, that nervous twitch
Won’t play, another top class match.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The worsening mental health of a young man
And one who could really play
Is very publicly going down the pan
And our game, the very game he graced
Looks on him with little sympathy, and does?
As per usual, sweet FA!

Notes

A very sad state of affairs. Gambling problems, drugs and booze are acceptable and kept well hidden, most of the time “as long as he gets out on the park and does the business”. But, in this country and in our game, there’s still have a bit of a stigma where a blokes mental health is concerned….why is that?

I wish you well son.
