Who’d Be A Goalie?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 who’d be a goalie?
that’s what he said
lying there frozen
the man could be dead
heated responses
in the bar at The Shed
who’d be a goalie ?
that’s what he said

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I recall Lofthouse
at Wembey one year
when barges and challenges
were deemed to be fair
Trautmann on his goal-line
a crumpled wreck
playing on regardless
with a broken neck
but twice in a game
getting thumped in the head
who’d be a goaile
that’s what he said

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 a hundred years back
the papers still recall
you could charge a goalie
if he didn’t have the ball
worst place out there
that I’d wanna be
no easy life
for a top goalie

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 direction protection
is what they require
out in the middle
in the heat of the fire
the moment that Carlo
and Cech went down
i just prayed
that they’d both come around

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 who’d be a goalie?
that’s what he said
lying there frozen
the man could be dead
heated responses
will be written and be read
who’d be a goalie ?
that’s what he said

Notes

Straight after a Kick it Out workshop at Stamford Bridge..i was watching this game in the Shed Bar at the Bridge on Saturday with Paul Canoville…. Chelsea’s first black player. The sight of two players out cold was so scary and left us both horrified.. I worried about them all weekend as if they were close friends – and I have never personally met either of them. Hunt must be feeling awful. . Without getting into answers, referees’ reactions, changes to laws or issues of clumsiness and accusations -Alan Shearer summed it all up on MOTD when he said … “Who’d be a goalie?”
