Who’d Be A Manager?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 As those employed are so deployed to win and win again
Media work is a stopgap to those outside the game
To turn things around whilst turning round to try to watch your back
Requires focus, skill and a thick skin to ward off media hack attacks
Ranieri’s on the t.v, Burley’s unemployed but was going well
Bobby Robson fancies one more ride on the management carousel
A thin white line, an upright is the difference in the end
Oh to be a manager, it must drive you round the bend
The sacking seasons here and now, nobody is safe
Directors expectations are ‘a win is all it takes’
The famous stab deep in the back ‘we’re right behind our man’
Was it Ron Saunders who said ‘ I want em right in front of me, so I can see their hands’?!
If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen, is what we’re always told
But in the next two or three weeks, one or two blokes could be looking at the dole!

Notes

They come on the t.v, right after the match, with tensions still running high with great dignity and smile, allow themselves to be interviewed when an upright or a bad decision by the linesman or the ref could have cost them three valuable points, or their jobs at any moment.

They, then have to bite their tongues and at the same time be diplomatic to some hack who may well have been trying to rouse the fans to call for their heads, in the local rag the previous week, prior to the game today.

I take me hat off to all of them, there are those who talk the talk without ever having walked the walk. A big up goes out to those who walk the walk up the tunnel every Saturday thinking” is today the day I get the tin tack”?*

*Cockney slang for sack
