Why Do I Care?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I was never there, so why should I care?
Those screams I’ll never hear, why do I shed a tear?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Not mine the life lost, or family broken and tossed
I never knew of pain, like those lost at that game.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 From a distance I watched, 9 years old, vision locked
Couldn’t quite comprehend, 5 minuets gone, and the end?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Lads and lasses on the pitch, us or forest, who cares which,
Bodies strewn, people crying, it’s only a match, and people dying?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Left me numb, feeling cold, but why? Only nine years old,
Not one I knew, but still I cried, for the lives of 95

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Years went on, another died, the 96th the final life,
And still I care, and I’m asked why, I wasn’t there, why should I cry?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Maybe I don’t know, its deep inside, had I been older, I could have died,
It could have been me crushed at the gate, or pressed against the fence, my final fate.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 But it is not, and I thank shanks, for giving me this chance,
To help the fight, to help the cause, to help bring justice under out laws.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 For 96, all friends of mine, all reds, of another time
And I shall not rest ‘till the fight is won, ‘till for 96, justice is done.

Notes

I wrote this after getting some inspiration of seeing the FANTASTIC work of my mate Peter Etherington. Its my only attempt at poetry, i usually write songs, which is much easier.

I am a Liverpool fan (as you will have guessed) and i attend as many games as the pocket will allow, got over to Dortmund last season, but missed both Cardiff days.
