Why I Despise David James. (For Christine Delaney) A Mate.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The ‘Ammers’ had just been slaughtered
At Old Trafford in the F.A Cup
The travelling fans from East London
Were marvellous
As their shattered team trudged off
They stood up
They applauded and sang
Gave praise to a man (and woman!)
Consoled the boys in defeat
The team spirit was spent
It was a non event
Some days
You just can’t compete
The t.v camera’s settled on a keeper
Who had just let five or six in
With his arm around one of the Neville brothers
He was joking and sporting a grin
He did’nt give a hoot for The Hammers fans
Who had travelled so far for this game
I’m sorry if this seems fickle to you
But thats why I despise David James.

Notes

I’ll never forget this F.A. cup match on the telly. David James seemed more interested in having a laugh with the Neville brothers at the end of, what had been a hiding, than all the ‘Ammers’ fans who had given up their Sunday and slogged it up to Old Trafford to cheer on the boys in claret and blue. all the ‘Ammers’ fans to a man and woman stood up and still cheered the boys off. Ah loyalty like that, is what its all about really.

In the foot notes to one of my previous poems, I said I did’nt know why I did’nt like this guy, well I’ve suddenly remembered!! This.

I don’t know about you (reader) but this kind of stuff does’nt sit very well with me as the poem suggests.

peace.

kev.
