We can fully guarantee that you’ll have fun.
There’ll be thousands of us there,
If you wish our joy to share,
You should come to De Ferrari, you should come.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Well, we’ve spent ten age-long years in Serie B.
Which is more than anyone could really need.
Now we’re going up at last.
Grab your hat, your flag, your scarf,
And when you get to De Ferrari, bang your drum!

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 You can dive into the fountain, if you dare.
You’ll get soaked right from your feet up to your hair.
But you’ll have no cause to cry,
When you’re old and fit to die,
You can tell your wee grandchildren: “I was there”!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And our Cousins from Sampdoria, they’ll look on.
As we dance and punch the air and sing our songs.
Sure, they’ll find it hard to take,
‘Cos they said we’d ne’er escape.
We’d be stuck in Purgat’ry, but they were wrong!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 So, look out, all you Ciclisti, here we come.
And the Gradinata Nord is set to hum.
Just you wait till Derby Day,
Then we’ll show you how to play,
Yeah, we’ll blow you all the way to Kingdom Come!

If you miss the Promo Party, you’ll feel sick.
‘Course The Joker will be there,
(And in future buy his wares),
‘Cos when other Chairmen failed, he did the trick!

11/6/05 Genoa Football and Cricket Club 3, Venezia 2… Genoa promoted to Serie A after an absence of ten years.
This poem is a re-working of a 1930s ditty entitled Will you come to Abyssinia?
Piazza De Ferrari is the central square in Genoa where supporters of Genoa and their rivals, Sampdoria gather when they have cause to celebrate.
The Ciclisti, Cyclists is what Genoa supporers call Sampdoria, because their shirt looks like a cyclist’s shirt.
The Gradinata Nord, the North End is where Genoa’s most vocal supporters are to be found.
The Joker is the nickname of Enrico Preziosi, owner of the Toy and Game Company, Giochi Preziosi and Chairman of Genoa, whose financial backing and passion made this promotion possible. Thanks, Enrico! Thanks, Lads!
