Win or Lose Football Life and Love Goes On

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It breaks your heart this football game
Left chasing shadows in the dark
But lace your boots and grab the shirt
Pick shattered dreams up off the park

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Your toes are frozen to the concrete
Your voice is hoarse and needs a drink
Your hopes are stripped of all belief
Will you be back? Of course you will

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 A roller-coaster ups and downs
Part of life win lose and draw
Sometimes your name is on the Cup
Sometimes your hopes fall through the floor

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The promised land still there tomorrow
History’s lessons we could learn
What goes around comes back to greet us
“It’s just a game” but God it hurts

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Yes the losses ache like hell and yes
We’d pack it in if just we could
But old cold turkey has us cornered
Football grabs you like a drug

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 So pull your wishes off the tarmac
Smooth them down wipe off the dirt
A win next week and all’s forgotten
The tears despair and yes the hurt

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 For when this football match is over
And we all head off home again
It matters not the points we’ve scored
But how well we’ve played the game.
