Work & Football (for National Poetry Day)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 now for those who can find work in football
you may think that it offers some perk
you can love it or fear it and never get near it
but whatever you do it’s still work

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 you can think about being the team coach
or driving one quite possibly
would you only survive as a footballer’s wife
or a soccer star celebrity ?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 now there’s no harm in setting your sights high
but only a few reach the top
you can dream ev’ry day of it coming your way
then one day the millions may stop!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 cos it looks really cool on the plasma
but there’s so many things you could do
if you don’t make the grade you could learn a good trade
that ‘ll last you a lifetime it’s true

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 there are so many jobs just in football
whatever your skills or your passion
there’s the tannoy dj who plays records all day
or designers of clubs kits and fashion

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 you could flog all the programmes on match days
or end up a groundsman perhaps
you could wind up a mascot for some team near Ascot
or in P.R but that can be crap!

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 and what about those who have jobs of their own
a milk round – estate agents too?
is it hard to combine how you keep back the time
to watch football whatever you do?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 and I know that some times it’s a nightmare
and I know it can drive us berserk
be you ref or a tailor or kit-man or sailor
‘but whatever you do… it’s just work
