World Cup at Christmas?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 No last minute shopping
shops are deserted
no miles of brake lights
all traffic diverted

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 no glitter or sparkle
no mince pies or mulled wine
a global crowd watches
sport in exotic climes

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 no room for a turkey
in a fridge full of beer
well that’s really no different
to the rest of the year

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 no room at the inn
for relatives to stay
spare room full of ready meals
stands in their way

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 no festive spirit
football songs, not carols
no Christmas jumpers
just sports apparel

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 no Advent calendar
no stars on a tree
no Strictly Come Dancing
it’s World Cup TV

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 no crackers, no mistletoe
no paper chains
A winter World Cup?
What if it rains?

Notes

The Grinch was suspected of stealing Christmas but I think it could be Sepp Blatter. Qatar was always going to be too hot in June. Now the summer tournament, which traditionally gives fans their fix during our domestic close season, will face disruption. Will our season recommence in time for my beloved Boxing Day match?

Oh well, note to self,..don’t lose sleep over it, England probably won’t qualify…
