World Cup Woe 2006

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So the dream is over,
out on penalties again
Another bloody letdown,
driving me insane
You think we would have practiced,
taking all those kicks
Instead of playing ball games,
with the WAGS and chicks

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Another player sent off,
heroics from those left on the field
Restored a little pride to a nation,
when they refused to yield
What is it with Man U players,
when the World Cup comes around?
Red Devils an apt motto,
for loose cannons tightly wound

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 So what if we were cheated,
played this formation or that
The truth is we were never good enough,
at least not from where I was sat
We lacked imagination,
we sat back and stalled
Failed to set pulses racing,
when three roaring lions called

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Sven didn’t have the answers,
couldn’t live with all the hype
This laid back Scandinavian,
was never the English type
When asked for pride and passion,
he responded with guarded poise
When we wanted rousing rhetoric,
a distinct lack of patriotic noise

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Sven’s reign is finally over,
what will be his memory we recall?
Will it be Nancy and Faria,
or the way he had us play football?
Should he have walked when compromised,
should he have been pushed?
Should McClaren have remained on the sidelines,
subservient and hushed?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 So what of our football future,
under the guidance of Steve McClaren
There is Theo and there’s Wayne,
Stu Downing and Aaron Lennon
Will we be fresh and exciting,
or another team going through the gears?
All will be revealed when the World Cup returns,
in four more bloody years
