Wrong End of the Stick?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It started out in Hartlepool one rainy, Friday night.
Northampton were the visitors to everyone’s delight.
I reckoned it would be a draw and marked it with a cross,
But the clever, canny Cobblers showed the Pool who was the boss.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And when the match was finished, I got into my Capri,
And drove across the country till I reached the Irish Sea.
I made my way to Bloomfield Road, to watch Notts County play,
Confident the midland club would get three points away.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But once again, my forecast fell on very stony ground,
For Blackpool played with skill and flair, as once they’d been renowned.
And by the second half, poor County’d given up the ghost,
So I hopped into my car and headed southward down the coast.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I found myself at Anfield, where I banked on a home win,
But Arsenal took the points, thanks to a headed goal from Quinn.
My coupon was a sorry sight, I’d broken all the rules,
Though in the space of one whole day, I’d done the Football Pools.
