You can smoke now up in heaven.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The no smoking signs in heaven
have been taken down today,
as God informs St Peter,
that Big Mal is on his way.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “We’ll have to bend the rules a bit,
this man has such an aura,
find a cloud for his sheepskin coat,
and a hook for that fedora.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Also Pete, when you get a chance,
will you ice up the champagne,
I’ve a feeling heaven, that we know
will never be the same.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The women angels they’ll flock to him,
that you can be sure,
and I believe the news has already reached,
the ears of Bobby Moore.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Already down in earthdom
he’s been mourned in towns and Shires
and especially in South London
where they called him “The Messiah.”

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Warn him of his language Pete,
he’s known as quite a curser,
and to make him feel much more at home,
put him next to old Joe Mercer.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Let them coach our coming match,
the derby game v Hell,
remember they discovered
the likes of Colin Bell.”

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 So Big Mal lands up in heaven
and doesn’t miss a beat,
as he tells God to “move over,
I think you’re in my seat.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 You’ve been up here for ever ,
It’s a feat I do admire,
But you must remember one thing God,
Their’s only one MESSIAH.”

Notes

Despite managing us to two relegations, Big Mal received legendry status amongst Palace. fans No one who was there, will ever forget the journey he brought us on in 76, when third division Palace went all the way to the semi finals of the FA Cup. Along the way we won at places like Leeds, Chelsea and Sunderland, not only winning but playing those teams off the park. For a season, we owned the back pages of the tabloids. Thanks for the trip Big Mal.
R.I.P Messiah
