You Can’t Help But Make Comparisons!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 When the dust of intensity settles
When all twenty two heads start to cool
Is success based on who showed their mettle
Or who flouted and broke all the rules?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 When the referees eyes are bedazzled by lies
And cheating is par for the course
Are we sending the wrong kind of messages out
That are nothing to do with a sport?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 When a kick or a punch goes unpunished
Or a personal name slur is thrown
Do we turn a blind eye and not question why?
It’s gotta be cool, cos after all,
It’s stuff that the t.v has shown!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 When all’s said and done, does a sour “we won”
Sit that well, with what you believe
After all, winning at all costs, based on lies and deceit
Is not something that is proudly achieved

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 When your beaten team trudge down the tunnel
When the exit way will not come quick
Are you sure that defeat is but a mere moment of grief
If you’re a big enough fan to admit it?

Notes

Yesterday, I watched the Irish and the French teams play! In the rugby at Croke Park Dublin, what a lesson in good sportsmanship, a strong referee and his assistants, who command the respect of the players right from the kick off and very rarely have to repeat any kind of instructions twice.

The 83.000 crowd had no need to be segregated. After a really close fought game that went right to the wire, everybody shook hands and applauded each other off the pitch, how come the football can’t be like that?

Then I watched Arsenal v Wigan! What a complete contrast in what we’ve come to accept, in our beloved game of football, as a so called professional sport played by top notch players!

It can’t all be down to money surely?
