Zen Football

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The pass came in from the left side
In my mind’s eye I cannot recall
The passage of play, prior to the fall
of the ball … all that I know (for sure) is
that the pass came in from the left side.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Now, given the width of the 5-a-side pitch
One may safely presume that a delicate chip
Had back-spun the ball on its path
An elegant arcing over the zenith
thus shifting and morphing
It’s courting of energy.
Aimed high- ward by guidance of “astro” clad feet,
Pulled Earthward by gravity, my way was
to meet the descent with a leap into space.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Levered by thrust from a fulcruming ankle
Into a temper of insight and angle
a turn through the universe
Systems unseen, through tempests
And maelstroms, science, belief
while nimbly vaulting unfaltering
orbits with weightlessness
coupled to speed

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Here, there is Flow, more pattern
than thought. I become part of
an overall movement, that started-
-it seemed-from out on the left..
…Or maybe before I was born….

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Seconds eternal connect to perfection
A deft interception, the means of dispatch.
The follow-through killed for a cause
Of direction, velocity managed through
Minimal contact.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Before I am grounded the ball has been buried
All power dispelled in the whip of the net
(I cannot remember if there was a “keeper”
-such was the focus of single intent)

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 ( Pause and consider…deep breath..then)

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 A Crystal recalling of relative beauty
A transcendental finishing
From just outside the “D”
In the broader scheme of everyday
It means absolutely nothing
But in that fluid moment,
It meant everything to me……
