1. A Fool’s Heart Ain’t Wide
How could people
People who are racist
Say all those things
Because of people’s faces
Anyone who does it
Is horrible and cruel
Anyone who acts that way
Is really just a fool
Whoever does it
Hurts people deep inside
When will they realise
A fool’s heart ain’t wide!

5. Who Do You Think Is Listening?
Racism is bad.
It can hurt peoples feelings .
It’s self -esteem you’re harming
Is what your doing.
Racism is unwanted
Who do you think it’s pleasing?
Take it away
Racism must go
The further the better.
Out of society forever.

6. Please Help
People are trying to be good,
People are trying to get them down .
People are trying to be better,
But others are just making it worse
So please help us
Stop the cursing and bullying.
Just help
Please help.
People’s feelings are getting hurt ,
People’s lives are being ruined,
So their hearts are being broken.
Please help!
By Karen Awoh

7. Racism
Racism is making people sad,
Adults are being bullied too.
Children are getting hurt and they are starting to cry,
I’d seen the children upset in the corners.
Some of the children are playing,
Mothers will help you if you go home and tell them.
By Jubela Khatun

8 Maybe If We Can Help
Rough children on the streets,
Ignorant to everyone
Cussing people everywhere
Idiots they get labelled
Some even admit they are cruel
Maybe if we can help, society can improve

10 What Is Racism?
Racism, Racism what is racism?
Racism is like football you have to tackle it…..
and kick it out,
It might seem like you’re not hurting on the outside
but you might be on the inside,
It’s like a disease
it spreads around the world,
The only treatment is to say NO!
Stand up, speak up,
The future of racism is in your hands,
Give it the red card.
By Warda Ikar

11. Kick out Racism
You call me a monkey
you throw bananas at me
I eat your bananas
then I score a goal.
I may be the best man in the team
It don’t make no difference
if I’m yellow or green
don’t take the mick
Just because I’m ‘blick’
racism racism makes me sick!
By Julian Johnson

12 Racism
Samia: Racism racism all around
I just wish it wasn’t found
Anu: I don’t care
Look at them glare
Samia: Isn’t it hurting you inside
Anu: so what, man its the colour outside
Samia: Racism is just like swearing
People like me are caring
Anu: I’m black and I’m proud
You’e just a stupid Paki – I’m gonna stomp on the ground
Samia: You know what – this is what I’m talking about
You’re judging people by their colour all about
Anu: I’m racist I can’t help that
Samia: You’re the kind of people who should be chucked out
Anu: I’m gonna leave right now
I don’t think there was any point in this row
Samia: You make me sick
Racism makes me sick
By
Anu Sowemimo & Samia Khalid
This poem was witten and powefully delivered by Anu and Samia who are two different nationaliities and come from two very diffent communities and backgrounds.. I like it because it has a strong message.Anu and Samia ,imagined themselves as being ‘racist’ and then ‘victim’. It goes beyond the standard concept of racism being purely a black white thing. 13. The Beast of Racism
This is a poem about racism and its effects on its victims.
Racism is judging people by their race or colour.
Racism is everywhere,
Its victims are caught in its deadly parlour
TOTALLY UNAWARE
On the street and on the road. It is very bare.
Racism causes people to hurt others.
It roams around looking for future feasts.
It occurs even among brothers.
Racism makes people act like beasts.
Tackle it, kick it out, and defend your fellows.
End its days of causing discord.
Send it back where to where it belongs
Send it back to where it came from……..
IGNORANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

14 The Disease Of Racism!!!
Racism is the worst.
Racism is like a burp.
It comes from somewhere
That has no place in football
Racism is like a disease
It spreads around like a wind
The treatment is here
In everyone’s hands
Racism is to be stopped
By people saying “NO”
To you who want to hurt
And why I do not know.
By Egreta

15 My Message
Racism is hurtful and upsetting,
Racism is unfair and intruding.
They have no right,
There’s no need for a fight.
No wonder why
Racism makes me cry,
Show them the red card,
And get the message across hard.
Its no fun
Lets kick it out and be one!

16 FOOTBALL IS
Football is
…fun
…sometimes boring, sometimes dumb
Football is
…..skilful
…sometimes painful
Football is…
…crazy
…sometimes lazy
Football is…
…a wonderful game
…people don’t have to blame
Football is…
…exciting when Drogba scores…
…and sadly sometimes full of racism
But football is …still…GREAT!
By Mariyana Stoyanova

17 IT’S SOMETIMES BIG AND IT’S SOMETIMES SMALLl
it’s sometimes big
and it’s sometimes small
some people think
it don’t matter at all
whether i‘m black
or whether I’m white
i know racism
sure isn’t right

18 TACKLE IT
It makes you feel inferior and weak.
Racism is infecting and destroying
It makes peeps feel excluded and alone
Using words like nigga, paki and whitey
It makes you feel inferior and weak
but when you tackle it
you realize how strong you are

20 RACISM IS
Racism is one of the most abusive offences
and it should be ignored.
Once racist always racist.
If we try our best we can kick racism out.
Racism is one of the rudest things that I have heard of.
Why did racism come to the world?
Who knows, who knows.

21 BANANAS… (Racism is Acrostic)
Racism is an outstanding arrogant cuss like you never heard before
A humongous life-time cuss
Can’t get away from it
It can’t get out of your mind you are trying to kick it out
Smack it out of you
Miss don’t being cussed
It should be knock out!!

24 RACISM
When a racist person call me names,
It hurt my heart like when you punch someone.
I feel like hitting them but I don’t want him to get hurt like me.
Racism is rubbish,
It should be kicked out of the world,
like you kick a foot ball
so fast to get rid of your enemies.
Then you will have peace.
By Mohamed Zial Huq

25 RACISM IS WACK
Racism is a horrible thing
People get called names like black ape and all-sorts
But they don’t know who it’s really affecting.
If the world didn’t have different coloured people it would be boring so God has done us a favor.
Just because someone is black doesn’t mean they are wack.
In the world we are all different colours but we are not different.
Just because people are black you torment them
What is the whole point?.
That’s all I have to say.
If you are racist then shame on you.
By Nicole Anderson Brown

26 THERE ARE RACISTS IN FOOTBALL AS WELLl.
Racism is bullying
Racism is cruel
It is also
Taking the mick
Out of other people’s colour.
There are racists in football
As well.
By Abu Amin

27 WE DON’T NEED IT (Racism Out Of Football-Acrostic)
Racism in football is definitely not wanted here
And it is also abuse what ever age they may be
Can’t you see it’s horrible – witness the hatred the fear
In God’s eyes we are all equal but why can’t you see
Some of god’s creations are good at football some may not be?
Mother’s father’s brother’s sister can all suffer the abuse
Out of order comments shouting out loud
Up in the stands shout boo see he’s black
The players have a job to do they only turn their backs
Only people cannot see the comments hurt
For stupid fool who are jealous of the comments that hurt
Forget them – remember we don’t need it
On our football grounds
One day they will see
That everyone in this world
Black or white
All the same
Let’s realise it now!
Let’s kick racism out!

28 RACISM IS UNWANTED IN THIS WORLD
Why is there no peace in the world?
Its only because of a very little thing
racism
Racism is against our religion
and our culture.
Racism is rubbish
And racism is unacceptable
So many people have been crying
Because of racism
People in this world
Have to work as a team
Instead of being racist
People cuss each other
Because of their colour
Ignore them and report them
But show them
RACISM IS UNWANTED IN THIS WORLD

29 Stop Racism Now
Racism’s horrible
it would destroy your feelings
like a frozen knife through your back.
It is an attack of people saying
that their type of skin colour is better.
So don’t take the ‘mickey’
Out of people
you would not get a trophy for it.
By Nasuf Serfi

30 Kick Racism Out Of This Universe
Give racism the full stop,
Don’t let them cuss and curse.
Tell a steward call a cop,
Kick it from this universe,
It’s not about your face,
It’s not about your clothes,
It’s not about your race,
Everybody knows.
Give racism a full stop now.
By Stacey Gardner
…………………………………………
31 Show Racism The Door
When you think about race
What do you think of?
People’s colour?
People’s clothes?
People’s accents?
People’s language?
This is what a racist thinks is wrong
When I think of racism
I think of people all around me
Not because of their colour but as my friends
My teachers my neighbours and my family
They don’t need to be
Black white Asian or mixed race
for me to talk to them
to me they’re just people
I don’t see the difference between the way we look
we’re all the same underneath
We believe in different things
That doesn’t make us weird or different
It’s just what we believe in
So if you have a problem with different races
Look around you
You go to school with them
ou work with them
They have even invented things
That you use today
So why hate somebody because of their colour
But welcome them
Because they’re your fellow person
So show racism the door!
By Nicole Maynard

32 Kick Out Racism
Racism is a deadly disease.
It takes the fun out of football.
This is where the serious stuff starts.
Sean-Wright-Phillips walks on to the pitch
A sub for England v Spain.
People shout racist chants
Sean looks ahead and stays strong.
Racism is something that will never go away
Unless people mix with other communities.
Silly clowns thinking they are big when they are not.
People who are racist are playing the fool.
We can beat this dreadful disease.
The cure is that we open up our hearts and speak to the world.
We can be Martin Luther King.
As he once said, “I HAVE A DREAM”
Kick out RASCISM!
Racists are the bad guys.
By Lucy Footman
……………………………………………..
33 STOP RACISM NOW
Racism is something that will never go away
Until people realize what they’re doing.
It’s a deadly disease. It is ignorant.
Racism is judging someone before you know them.
It is bad, rude and very, very evil.
The rudest sin is hurting someone because of their religion.
Racism is as if your heart stops beating .
Don’t be scared of racism be strong!!!
By Sadia Khan
……………………………………………….
34 End It Now
Racism has no point,
It’s a terrible thing to experience,
I would really like it to stop,
People making fun out of other people’s race,
Great players are having to be faced,
By people mocking in their face,
But even though they are going through hell,
They are really focusing on the ball.
They are showing that they are no different,
To any other great player,
They are trying to silence the racist,
And teach them a lesson.
Racism is wrong,
A very bad thing to come along,
Racists think it’s a joke to make fun,
But they are wrong so end it now
By Deep Haria

35 The Pitch
It’s Racism vs. West Ham
It’s half time, and people are shouting
Reo-Coker!
So its one nil to racism,
West Ham have the ball
Konchesky shoots,
And scores,
One all
It’s a tight game,
Racism, Christian is rubbish Daily,
2 – 1 to racism,
2 -1 to racism,
West Ham has just tackled racism,
And scored twice,
3 – 2 to West Ham,
You can beat racism.
By George Burke

36 Don’t Be Afraid
Racism is bad, it makes people sad
Racism is bullying. It drives me mad!
People are racist because of who you are.
They call you names and they do it from afar
RACISM.
You can’t beat racism not by playing their game
But in the end we are all the same!
Black, Asian or White
It doesn’t even matter about your height.
DON’T BE AFRAID!
Anon
37 Racism – Acrostic Poem.
Racism is bullying,
Always tell someone.
Cussing and stuff don’t help,
In the end we are all the same.
Stop and help others,
Make the world a better place, and stop the Racism!
By Chelsea Brown

38 Racism
What is racism?
Racism is bullying,
Racism is threatening,
Racism is killing,
Racism is non-stop,
When will it stop?
Come on lets stop racism!
By Masum Hussain
………………………………………………………..
39 Why Be Racist?
Why be racist?
It helps me to be calm.
Why hurt others?
It feels excellent.
Why bully others
because of the way they are?
Because it is fun.
Why spoil such a great game?
Because the game is boring.
Why spoil life?
To enjoy life.
Why let others suffer?
So they don’t achieve a good future.
If you like to hurt others, bully
others, spoil others life, make others suffer,
then what was the point of birth?

Well said Crispin. One of the reasons for The Ball 2022/23 is exactly this – that FIFA need to know. The Ball is essentially a petition to FIFA to honour their commitments to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework. They signed up; they should act. The Qatar tournament takes the World Cup in the opposite direction to that commitment. And 2026 looks like it’ll be even worse.

Hi Guys
Re ‘Lets Boycott Qatar ‘ poem
You probably hate me banging on..and problably know (like me) that my/your not watching the World Cup in Qatar will make no difference.
Of course it won’t. That’s not the point.
OK someone might possibly eventually publish a minimal drop in terrestrial TV viewer numbers, but I fear that is unlikely.
But please above all, do go on writing poems about the World Cup, as/you we have always done. I hate to think a poem or two of mine might l make you feel bad about comenting on a game or country …or that I’ve put you all off about wanting to contribute.
So we’d love to hear from you and read your thoughts and observations, as ever on what’s going on.
Some of us have been here since Football Poets website birth/inception for the Euros 2000 ….
All my best wishes
Crispin

Shoot! (Something we’ve also been screaming in vain at our team all season !)
Great memories Joe . Before Shoot, it was Roy of the Rovers comic too, dropping through my letterbox.
Anxiously waiting each week to see if they survived in the mexcian jungle after an ambush..or a pre-season earthquake!

Thanks for the kind words Sharon. Yes, it was a shame with Billy Shako, but with five subs now being allowed, he might yet make it off the bench. Even if it’s just a cameo to close out a poem.

Great memories Greg. Took me right back.
Today I stand on a small terrace in the hills where I live watching Forest Green Rovers in L1, and keep up with Chelsea on highlights. It’s a far cry and a world away from those times when I lived as a child within walking distance of ‘The Bridge’ – just off the Ifield Road, which led to Fulham Road. The Blues were rubbish for so long, but we loved them and somehow we stayed in the old First Division for so many seasons. And of course we got to see Greavesie at his impudent best, scoring goals for fun. Mad unpredictable games where we’d score 4 and let in five.
The looming floodlights in the dark and mist on magic night games. The big games when the ground heaved.
I don’t think we ever realized how magical and incredible it was back then. The atmosphere and arriving there so early – like you said.. just to make sure you got in. Back when Bovril, tea and cake and roasted peanuts for sixpence a back were just about all on offer.
Good times.
