THE POEMS:
RACISM IS WHEN..
Racism is when
a person
from a different race
thinks that
another race
is inferior
to the other
By Victor, Oxford African and Refugees Families Development Community kids’ Team.
——————————————————————
RACISM IS IGNORANCE
Racism is ignorance
So we have to educate.
Teach truth and justice
To those who preach hate.
Racism is violence
So we have to teach peace
Freedom and courage
to the would-be thought police
Racism is fear
So we have to be brave
Teach those who badmind
So they learn to behave.
Racism is quiet hatred
So we have to shout
Make our voices loud and clear
And Kick It Out
Martin Brodesky – Raging Fever FC

DAY OR NIGHT
Day or night
Rain of sun
Lightning or storm
It doesn’t matter to me.
The only thing that matter’s to me
Is football.
High or low
Slow or fast.
It doesn’t matter
I will still kick it out.
No racism
Will go through
My heart.
A real footballer
Has no racism
In his heart.
Day or night.
Rain or sun.
Lightning or storm.

THERE ARE NO COLOURS IN FOOTBALL
Football – it is my life;
it is my life.
Football – it is my dream;
it is my dream.
Football – it is fair play;
It is fair play.
I am passionate about football;
football is my career.
My quality it is my skill.
Football may build society
Football may help youth against vandalism
Football can stop youth playing with drugs and drink
Football can guarantee my life, if I am serious
There are no colours in football.
George Espoir,
Manager OARDFC’s adult team and youth team.
——————————————————–
FOOTBALL IS PASSION
What is my passion for football?
Football gives me focus and
Clears my mind
Football uncomplicates life
Football is a level playing field
Football is 90 minutes in any weather
Football is passion.
Leon Carter,
Manager Oxfam’s unofficial football team.
——————————————————————–
FOOTBALL IS MY PASSION
I play football to have a career
To be known in the world
To be known in the country
To be rich
I play football because I love football.
I play to help my family in Africa.
Football is my dream. I love football.
Oh football, football, football.
It can keep you fit, prevent you from using cocaine
and any other drugs.
Football is my passion, it is my dream.
Mcintosh
—————————————————————–
BECAUSE IT IS MY FUTURE
I play football because it is my future
I would like to be a footballer when I grow up
and that’s why I play football.
I play football because it is my future.
I would like to be a footballer when I grow up
and that is why I play footbal
football is my favourite sport
and football is fun.
Thomas
———————————————————-
FOOTBAL MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME
Because it is my favourite sport
Football means everything to me
Because it is such good fun
Football is the best
Because one day I could become a professional football player
Football is where I want to be…
And because it is a challenge
I will face the test…
Because football is for everyone…
Whatever their colour or race…
I will play with skill and grace.
Owen
———————————————————-
FOOTBALL IS NOT RACISM
Racism is when people are jealous about other players
to even want to kill them.
It has never happened to me.
Football, football all around.
Balls are shaped big and round.
Racism is not nice.
Don’t be cruel to mice.
Racism should live without a tribe
because we come from different places.
Think about it.
On the road, be careful,
Don’t squash a toad.
Racism makes you very sad.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to take that road.
But you can do something about it surely?
Football is not racism.
Desky Ngathe
—————————————————-
RACISM DOES NOT PAY
Black, white, brown,
we are all the same.
So let’s just forget it and
Go on with the game.
I know everyone
loves that game
But it gets scruffy
When we call each other names.
So go on the pitch and score
Some goals
But it does not matter
If you hit the post.
You had a bad day,
But racism does not pay.
———————————————————————————-
WANT TO GET TO THE TOP
I like football
Because I like to play football.
There is nothing better
than that game.
Why don’t you just take your chances
and win that game.
I want to get to the top
but not just by kicking a bottle top.
I want to succeed
but not be a fool like a pixie.
You know what I am talking about
No, it is not a roundabout.
Take what you’ve got
Because you ive got a lot.
I love football because
It’s a great game
But it gets nasty
When you call each other names.
Desky Ngathe
———————————-
WHY ARE YOU JEALOUS?
You can say whatever
You want about some of us but
Why are you jealous? Why?
We say no and give you the red card.
Kick It Out
We are all the same
So why are you jealous?
We have the same breath
Same blood
Same planet
Kick Racism out now.

LET’S PLAY TOGETHER
Football is our sport and it is fun.
The racists will bring it undone
So let’s play together
Whatever the weather
And score great goals by the ton
Leon Carter, 25, Oxfam’s unofficial team’s manager

WHY DO THEY HATE?
Black, White, Brown, Yellow.
Different on the surface, but
the same underneath.
Why do they hate?
Ignorance, stupidity.
These are the reasons.
What is to be done?
Fight them?
Abuse them back?
No..
Educate them first.
John Matthews, Manager, Raging Fever FC

THE COLOURS OF OLD TRAFFORD
They say Rooney is white
And Rio is black.
They say Pak Ji Sing is yellow
Scholes is ginger
and Wes Brown
Is actually orange!
But to me,
they are all reds.
Jon Clarke, 25, Oxfam.

RACISM IS SAD
Foootball is nice
Football is good
I think it is brilliant
Like every child should.
But racism is sad
It makes me mad.
When it is gone,
I will be really glad.

RACISM IS A BAD THING
Racism is a bad thing,
And it’s a sad thing.”
Racism is anger between people
who Could be friends instead.
It is Ignorance and fea
r of what is different.
Racism is when you hate someone
because of his or her colour.
Racism is when you feel a bad thing
about people
or another person
that makes that person feel sad.
To out racism, you have to be a friend
to that other person.
Racism is the worst feeling in the world..
it is inxplicable hatred…
and racism is fear of what is different.

All Saints School Winning Poems 17.10.06
Held in the lovely environs of the Study Support centre in the old listed stand at Fulham, where they still have the original protected wooden seats from the 1800s.How rare is that for a premier league side? These 5 poems were chosen as the winning poems. They were read out at half time in the Fulham v Wigan game at Craven Cottage .Big thanks to Jude helpers and all the kids. The poems were also featured on BBC TV’s Match Of The Day 2 on 22.10.06
BEAT THE BATTLE
Racism is a waste of time
And a crime
It can hurt people inside
It’s not a joke
If you don’t tell anyone
You can’t be helped
Were not gonna stop this battle
Till we get our fight
If you want we’ll wait
Day and night
If you think you you can beat it
Leap up on your feet
Cos you know how it feels to be hurt
Were gonna win this battle
If we win we’ll throw racism in the bin
If something bad happens to you
You feel outnumbered and different
That’s not gonna happen any more
Cos were gonna fight this battle
Against racism
Doesn’t matter what race time or place.
People look up to people
Like Boa morte
Cos He’s a great role model.
Racism is a waste of time
And a crime.

———————————————————————————- RACISM IS WRONG!
Racism is pointless,
It makes your life a complete mess.
It doesn’t matter if you get a red card,
Because it leaves the other player badly scarred.
When you’re upset, be confident!
Defeat racism, it leaves you content.
Sometimes you will still have fears,
Change them just ignore your peers!
Racists just make the game worse,
When they scream and shout and curse.
Just change it, WIN. Play on, just play,
Soon racism will stop, one day.

BLACK & WHITE SEE RED
Racism is simply the worst
If we get more I will burst
If you do it, then – RED CARD!!!
It’ll leave you hard and scarred
Don’t be bad, it makes us sad
Imagine if that’s all we had!
Please don’t shout those words about
We’re here to kick your racism out
Racism just gets out of hand
We all think it should be banned
Can’t you racists understand?
Chuck it right out of the land!
Boa Morte’s very sad
Because your racism is so bad
Bouba Diop’s seeing red
Do you know what he just said?
Let’s get together, kick it out!
All you fans stand up and shout
Christanval and Zakuani
Going absolutely barmy
Know that’s not the way to go
They’re about to tell you so!
Hurray for Cookie’s black and white army!!!

ANTI RACISM
Racism’ is a bad thing
It is definitely not the king,
Racism is really bad
It makes people sad and mad,
Racism cannot win
I think we should throw it in the bin,
Show racism the red card
though it could be hard,
If it gives you lots of fears
You may end up in a bunch of tears,
Racism is a waste of time
Even if it is a terrible crime,
If you do not show
No one will ever know,
But if you start to cry
Never, EVER tell a lie!

RACISM BLACKMAIL
If you Blackmail you get a red card,
Those you Blackmail will get scarred.
Don’t make a puddle of tears,
Just because Racism is your fear.
Be strong
And don’t listen
Racism is wrong
So don’t listen
Don’t have blackmail nightmares
Think of Luis Boa Morte in your dreams
Don’t wake up, coz of your screams
Kick your fears and hate away
Put them on a forever holiday
Don’t let them win put racism in a
BIG, FAT BIN

NO MORE RACISM IN THIS WORLD
No more racism in the world,
For every boy and every girl,
Racism is really sad,
It makes people feel so bad,
Racism is just ignorance.
If you’re black or if you’re white,
Calling names is not alright,
Racism is not a fair game,
Everyone is just the same.
It’s cruel and vile,
It wouldn’t make me smile,
The world would be a better world,
If racism wasn’t a word.

WE’RE ALL THE SAME
Football, feelings and fantasy
Have to play with a referee,
Team work is a vital key,
If you’re an alien what will you see.
What will happen on the day?
What will their fans horribly say?
Football pitches all over the place
Don’t judge people by their race
Black players, white players, we’re all the same
We just want to play a fair game.
When the ball passes the line,
You just say ‘THAT GOAL’S MINE’!

BOOT IT OUT
bad racism is rubbish
It comes from people who are jealous of others
And don’t care or know
what racism is about
but in football we just need
to puncture it and chuck it out
that’s what racism is about
it’s about jealousy and different skin colour
all you gotta do is boot it away

KICK OUT RACISM
Racism is a mean and horrible thing to do to people?
Racism is hurtful and makes people feel bad
Racism makes people mad and wish they were different
Racism goes to people that are black white and who have a different religion
Football is thrilling amd exciting to some people and to some it’s so boring
They can’t handle it .
Kick Out Racism .
Stop making fun of people that are black at football matches
like Shaun Wright Philips and Jermaine Defoe.
Racism needs to be kicked out now or it will get worse like it used to be
And that will be terrible.
People will start fighting then the world will be horrendous
The people that are racist should be kicked out of the stadium for life

RACISM IS CRUEL
Racism is cruel,
It is when people are really mean
About people’s colour or religion,
Football is a sport with 2 goals
Which you shoot at, and it is really really good!
Racism spreads throughout the big world.
Foot ball is the best thing I have ever watched.
The ref has a red card and it stops the game.
Kick it out pack it in!
Racism is mean
it should stop right now
People being racist in groups is horrible
People feel bad they had better stop it!!
Everybody is the same we are all to blame.
Foot ball is the best thing ever!
It is wrong that’s why we are stopping it!

RACISM SHOULD BE OUT
Football is kicking a ball
Sometimes we have a fall
Racism is people who are black or have a different religion
They get taken the mick
Only Oxford United care about those people
Oxford United will never be racist
If they’re black it’s not their fault
or if they are a different religion
Shawn Wright-Philips is a brilliant player
Nobody should think he is rubbish because he is black
Racism should be out
Jermain Defoe

RACISM
Racism is bad it makes people sad
Racism should be banned
From the land
Racism isn’t true
It makes people blue
It hasn’t happened to me
As far as I can see
Has it happened to you?
What did you do?
If it does treat it with love
But always tell the truth
About what happened to you
Its sad to end in sorrow

‘You’re Supposed To Be At Home’ is an excellent and moving poem Denys.
You start off thinking it’s just about another oft-sung chant, one we personally heard a lot last season throughout our second relegation in a row here at Forest Green(FGR) ! I always love poems where you think they are saying one thing and then they suddenly pull you deeper to somewhere or something else else.
I’m currently helping in a local school for FGR in a voluntary capacity using football to help young students with reading. At an upcoming session we will tackle racism, just like we did in workshops at football schools and grounds when we first started this site 24 years ago. I’m gonna try and weave your poem into a session.
We’ve added it to the Anti- Racism/Kick It Out section under Crispin’s Corner.

Great poem Mike Bartram. Eddie was a legend, affectionately known in Liverpool as, “the first hooligan.” Even the hoolies were well dressed in those days. The amazing thing was he was only 26 when that picture was taken. He’d played for Everton youth team and was well known to the players. He never got arrested. They threw him out and he climbed back in, just in time for Derek Temples winner.
I used the picture of him being tackled to the ground on the front cover of my book, “Once Upon a rhyme in Football.” It’s worth looking on youtube and finding the re-enactment of the Wembley scene. Frank Skinner and Baddiel went around to Eddies home in the 1990’s and acted it out on the green outside. It’s hilarious, especially all the effort they put in to get Eddie sober enough to shoot the scene.

Hi Denys,
Yes Richard Williams you’re a brilliant wordsmith, my friend. When I first saw your football poetry I thought it was the superb Guardian sports and music writer. I once had the honour of sitting next to Richard Williams while at the Independent on the sports desk. He writes about music and sport with immense knowledge and authority. I’ve read a couple of Richard’s books recently. Great writer rather like you Richard Williams the Pompey fan. Congratulations on promotion.
