Hopelessness of a Goalkeeper

Looks to officials in black
His ardous journey just got steeper
As they cut the poor man no slack.

His paradise has been penetrated
After the ref he is sure to run
As the goal is celebrated.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Argues fiercely as the crowd listen in
Hearing the keeper battle in vain
Looking likely that he’s not going to win
Growling lungs highlight the pain.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Explodes through body language
Which everyone can understand
A victim of a sudden brutal vanquish
Begging for mercy with open hands.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The linesman doesn’t change his mind
Despite the screaming protestations
From the goalkeeper stuck in a bind
He’s in no mood for commiserations.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 All the shouting and the goal still counts
He shakes his head in disbelief
A tragedy bestowed and pressure mounts
A goal at the other end would come as sweet relief.
