Red, Not Read

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 He was eight when he joined the academy
Bouncing balls like babies on his knee
Ambitions to play at Wembley
At twenty, he’d write his autobiography

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 At last, his long awaited debut
Name on shirt, his boots were new
As he ran out, apprehension grew
He’d be ok when he’d had a touch or two

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 He saw red, got shown the card
Sent off for going in too hard
Disciplinary record somewhat marred
Like the striker, whose leg he’d scarred

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 His future was uncertain then
A seond chance, but who knows when
He may have no need to pick up his pen
It’s possible he won’t play again

There’s always someone better, faster, younger – don’t give them an easy route past.
