Robinson Crusoe, Coral Island; are these old tales still read?
I loved them like close friends, aye, long ago
I remember with what pleasure I lay upon my bed
As in my mind’s eye, tides ebbed to and fro

I think my parents thought me sickly
For I used to dash off quickly
Not to cinema or football, no, not me
I just found a friendly nook
Where I sat and read my book
Till my ma would come and call me for my tea

I know it’s not for everyone, too boring, so some say
But if we learn to love it early on in life
Reading tales of giant whales and sun-drenched secret bay
Is escape from hours and days of worry and strife
