That Young Fella’s Face, Said It All.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They didn’t need a spotlight, when that smile lit up his face
He was witnessing a wondrous sight in an awe inspiring place
The agony and ecstasy were mirrored in his eyes
As his team of jobbing part-timers, score first on Merseyside.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 As fans with whom he journeyed up, completely lose the plot
Sheer bewilderment was evident as a fright spreads round The Kop
Nails are chewed in nervousness as one each comes to call
Yet still his boys are surging forward, giving it their all.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 As chances made start piling up, his dream team hit the net
Could it be, that they’ll score three and cause a major upset?
The pro’s are getting worried, this wasn’t supposed to be
To be knocked out of the cup at home in front of Alan Green?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 A duece a piece and tension mounts, what chance they had is gone
Please don’t let us go to pieces, still the fans sing on
History is being made, you couldn’t dream it up
About the day we went to Anfield and played Liverpool in the cup.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Full time comes, the dream succumbs to harsh reality
Sadness? Not a bit of it, pure happiness and glee
The journey home is filled with song and talk of Liverpool
After witnessing The Fields Of Athenry and You’ll Never Walk Alone.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 He can’t quite believe it happened were they really two one up?
And what about the sporting Kopites stood there giving
His boys a round of applause, as the semi pro’s trudged off?
A great day for the memory, where his part time team stood tall
These words are made from a look on a young mans face

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 That really said it all!

This young fella’s face, in the crowd, at Anfield on Saturday was one of the most moving sights I’ve seen at a match for ages.

Etched on his face is a map of the journey all of us fans have made at some time or other. The highs and lows, the agony and the ecstasy. So near and yet so far. Will you blow that blimmin whistle referee?
