Through the Mill & Back Again ~ Euro 2025

like the times you lost your way
somewhere back in time
nothing seems to click at all
doubts consume your mind
sometimes you get dragged astray
nothing works and then
something pulls you through the mill
til you’re back again

nights like these they come around
like a carousel
all you planned gets blown aside
why no-one can tell
then just as your faith is stretched
who know how or when
something drags you through the mill
and back on out again

that the beauty of this game
that’s what sparks the dream
that the magic of it all
that’s what binds a team
never losing heart or hope
right on til the end
whatever you go through
to get back again

ev’rybody’s been there
fate can be unkind
scary last ditch moments
nervy extra times
fans go through the wringer
no-one can pretend
nights like this can drain you
til you’re through again

dreaded shoot-out penalties
haunt us through the years
someone is a hero
someone ends in tears
something drives you through it all
like a trusty friend
though that hedge or through the mill
til you’re back again

games where you’re right there on top
games where you feel like you’re all systems go
games where you suddenly stop

games where you start like a wild fire
games where you battle away
games where it all goes against you
games where it’s just not your day

~

games that can swing on a moment
games where you don’t seem to flow
games where the things you do best disappear
games where your levels just go

games where it just doesn’t happen
games where whatever you do
games where it just isn’t working
games where they’re better than you

games where you seem to forget ev’rything
games where emotions run high
games where you lose and can’t get it back
games that can just pass you by

games where you seem to surrender
games where it all goes astray
games where you know that you’re just not youself
games where it’s just not your day

games where decisions affect you
games where inside you just know
games where your passing is woeful
games where you let it all go

games where you struggle and can’t get it right
games where you just lose your way
games where you wake up but leave it too late
games where it’s just not your day
