Hi all

I rarely watch footy, though used to be a fan as a kid, but stuff happened … besides, have always been a radio kid of the 1970s.

I teach. So encourage my students to read poems from this site as poets here do a brill job of conveying rhythm, history, heartfelt memory. I sometimes include verses found here in my lesson plans, enabling my learners to reflect and realise the difference between emotions, feelings and moods, which the writers here do express so well.

I enjoy poems about football because my students love the game. I recently read a short novella about two kids who don’t know one another but as devoted supporters rival teams, they each travel to the same match with their single parent dads. During the game they each get separated and lost but are unexpectedly helped and sheltered by the other’s dad. Through this experience they all appreciate despite passionate rivalry, readers learn that sports fans share wholesome decency and values.

So I thought to try and write something about our national sport, though I am far from a diehard fan.

Thanks for reading
