Songs of joy and and songs of celebration
Echoed on the terracing of old Hampden,
And crucified while standing firm on his goal line,
Stood the Rangers goalie, George Niven.

Fifty years ago in the month of October
A legendary cup final is surely remembered.
When Jimmy McGrory’s famous Glasgow Celtic
Took to the field to play Scott Symon’s Rangers

George Niven’s nightmare took 22 minutes to define
As Sammy Wilson’s shot hit the back of the twine,
And he cursed and berated his lackluster defenders
When Neil Mochan made it two just before half-time

The Celtic fans witnessed a football exhibition
With the versatile Willie Fernie as Celtic’s inspiration.
He led the charge from the midfield to attack
Were the forwards, they moved with speed and precision.

Billy McPhail scored Celtic’s third from a Bobby Collins cross
And again in the 67th minute he added Celtic’s fourth.
The angels in heaven, they joined the Hampden roar,
When Neil Mochan scored his second and Celtic’s fifth.

The Celtic faithful sang with delight
Honoring those players who wore the green and white.
McPhail claimed his third and Celtic’s sixth,
His name was heralded through the Lambhill that night.

The poor play of Rangers was witnessed from as far as heaven
And from the penalty spot Willie Fernie scored Celtic’s seventh.
The Rangers support left Hampden in a mass exodus
While Peacock held aloft the League Cup as Celtic’s captain.
