An Old Football Fan

Life can be hard for an old football bard
When his team isn’t playing so well.
What can he write that doesn’t sound trite
When his team has a long losing spell?
But an old football bard is an old football fan,
And a fan’s used to life’s ups and downs.
He comes back again, and sings through the pain,
And he grins much more often than frowns.
At the end of the year as he holds back a tear;
Lost again, and no place to hide:
“Next season for sure, we’ll be there at the door!”
And he waves his old club scarf with pride.
