England still believe

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Brazil will have the weight of expectation on their heads –
the Final party’s ready and they’re waiting to begin it.
Spain are still the giant that each other country dreads
and Montserrat Caballé may be singing like a linnet,
but England still believe that they can win it.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 It’s probable the Germans will be there or thereabouts –
don’t write them off till past the final minute.
The Russian bear, it seems, has not been favoured by the touts –
all other teams are queuing up to skin it
but England still believe that they can win it.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The Argentines look handy – they’ll be no easy touch.
You can’t discount a team with Messi in it.
And at your very peril, you may disregard the Dutch –
they’ll take the form book, tear it up and bin it
but England still believe that they can win it.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Portugal’s belief is that they’re Coupe de Monde contenders
and yes, they have the stars to underpin it.
And Suarez is so hot he can bamboozle most defenders –
head it, curl it, lob it, flick it, shin it
but England still believe that they can win it.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The Italians have the players that can make teams come unstuck,
no matter how the purists try to spin it.
And the Belgians and Croatians will both need a little luck,
but both could ultimately banana skin it
but England still believe that they can win it.
