Did not enjoy top billing as a thriller
Things got off to a bad start with a dreary
And far-from-rousing welcome for O’Leary

Despite the home crowd being tanked with beer
Cos in the back of every fan’s cortex
There lodged a very troubling time vortex

And made folks hearts feel heavy as a boulder
Sprake, Madeley, Reaney, Charlton, Johnny Giles
Leeds could have done with their defensive wiles

These giants were there, fans knew it in their bones
To watch it all from their exalted seat
The Lilliputian struggle at their feet

Contrasting grim realities on the park
We’re destined never to see their open play
Grace Elland Road but there you go, as they say

Leeds thought that things were shaping to be merry
The ref then proved himself a cowing git
By turning round and disallowing it

Mean Leeds still end up sitting on their arses
It aptly sums things up for them this season
And I don’t think we need a further reason

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 To close this chronicle of perspiration
Leeds better pray for greater inspiration
From 15 points they’ve got 9 safely stashed
And well reduced the risks of being thrashed

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 So now this dreadful year has run its course
Here’s hoping Leeds can muster all their force
Plus more consistency than any rival
To kick their way to Premiership survival

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 And if like me you’re feeling demob happy
Escaping from this poetry so crappy
Then all that there remains for me to say
Is y’bugga lads, we’re with you all the way!!

Notes

This one was really the sign-off for the Dreadful Year
2003. However I continue to monitor Leeds progress
via waccoe and remain active on the message boards!
I’m putting together a Xmas Special 2003 as a tribute
to Leeds and hope to publish it via tott-reunited, but
it’s work in progress at present.

I hope you’ve worked out that my method is a kind of
tragi-comic mockery in the delivery combined with down
to earth vulgarity and bathos, but that’s open to
interpretation!

The reference to Mike “the knee” Duberry is to do with
a jammy goal he got via a deflection off his knee at
Charlton.
