Belonging

the stands,
the restricted views,
this end,
that end,
the kop,
the queues,
the tunnel,
the dugout,
the seats,
the road,
the boxes,
the suites,
Anfield
my home.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The faces,
the hands,
the distracted youths,
this lent,
that lent,
the echoed news,
the programmes,
the pullouts,
the feet,
the toes,
the dockers,
the suits,
Anfield,
my home.

the great Emlyn Hughes
the John Barneses,
THE Kenny Dalglish,

Notes

Started off as the first stanza only. Too short me thought. So, using same rhyming cadence, constructed the second stanza, using the supporters. Had to cap it of with the third stanza to show the meaning of what makes Liverpool Football Club so great….their players and therefore within them the club’s history. The first stanza is like the heart…tunnels, boxes….where (and pardon me for the melodrama here) the blood runs through. The second stanza is the body and the blood…the supporters…..their hands…what they carry into the ground..the news. The third stanza is the soul…the legacy that’s been left behind…..by the players. Finally, and for the second time, a quote from Bill Shankly in reference to the “This is Anfield” plaque.
