Frog marched,
corridors previously a running track,
now a hallway of shame.

to unwritten rules,
did not wish to seek detention,
but my love for you,
has seen to it.

Comfort chairs,
the headmaster’s demeanour,
hard like a leather strap,
given sternly,
in my opinion,
for a casual misdemeanour.

To them,
a gross treason against the state,
of great import,
worth attendance,
from a higher authority,
“Your dad’s on his way”.

Fun with inside out blazers,
ties like flat thin eels,
sometimes like kippers,
laughter, mocking and fights,
opposition schools,
such delights,
all about to be lost,
and for what?

Football, my first love,
a kick is a kick,
and I’m now so very sorry,
I did against a wall,
where it says I shouldn’t.
