We Knew

We knew, we really knew
This day, not like the rest
When seed from the stump shall rise
Phoenix rising, here comes the sun
In Heart of our hearts
We know it’s a game
Love and pride are not misplaced,
The quality of football is not strained,
It descends only to ascend
Enthroned in memories our hopes rise
Step forward spirit of England
Arise lads this is the day
When smiles unite a nation
Beginning in the heart
Fused with tears of elation
Childlike joy released
We knew…we knew
The wait is over
New memories abound, smile
The smile of liberation
Smile, this is the day…we knew
We knew….football is coming home
