Happy To Be Here~WC Day 4

Russia FIFA shams aside
feelings we all share
put my cynic hat away
happy to be here

moment’s fin’lly come around
as it sometimes will
this time it’s indifference
that’s replaced the thrill

painted homes and England flags
voted with their feet
hope is hanging somewhere
not upon our street

what if we could just for once
overcome our fear
like Iceland and Mexico
just happy to be here

Denmark ride their luck

This was the game of plenty
France had more and more
With their lethal attacking trio
How many would Les Bleus score?

Twas a penalty that never was
Griezmann dispatched it coolly
What’s most shocking of all
Is VAR acting unruly

Umtiti has a mad moment
Jedinak the Aussie star
Deschamps rings the changes
Bailed out by Pogba

Argentina were left to rue

Simply refused to shrivel

The lead lasts four minutes

Unlucky Peru rue killer touch
Peru 0-1 Denmark

Yussuf Poulsen did enough
To win this opening tie

To leave the Danes home and dry

It could have been different
Christian Cueva had the bullseye

But he chose to aim for the sky

There was no past Schmeichel
Although Peru tethered Eriksen’s flow
Denmark take the three points
They were quite lucky to do so
