Notes
Where have all the poems come from? You all!
Another milestone was reached this week. John J O’Connor’s poem Where Have all the Great Captains Gone? marked the 16500th poem published here.
Eighteen years ago, we launched in June 2000 to tie in with Euro 2000.
We survived and grew and relaunched at last thanks to Christian Wach of the Spirit of Football, having contended with endless spam and a dilapidated old site on an antiquated digital platform for most of these years. The British Library highlighted us early on, as one of their first 1000 significant sites of interest and positivity to preserve. Likewise we’ve been preserving your words ever since.
We have had so many hundreds of poets deliver their work here. Many are still here on the new site even though you now have to join, log in and remember or save passwords (ouch!)
I can’t believe that wherever I’ve been, that I/we have checked this page for your poems every day since that day in 2000. Thank you again to Christian, Clik The Mouse, Stuart Butler , Parry Maguire , Dave Cockcroft and you all ….onward. Keep on.
