1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Whenever I log on it’s fine
To switch hats to FoggontheTyne
Instead of emitting a curse
I just let off steam with bad verse

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The cause of my trouble is clear
And I’m going to set it out here
A bad case of faith unrequited
Supporting Newcastle United

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And marra it’s been a hard road
Expectation’s a terrible load
But without aspirations to fire us
What do we have left to inspire us?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Through almost one-half of our history
With one major Cup it’s a mystery
The scale of the silverware famine
Is just unbelievably damning

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The locust years of the late fifties
When seemingly nothing could lift us
We looked to the past to revive
51, 52, 55

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 We struggled against heavy odds
A dreadful twilight of the Gods
The players who’d lifted the Cup
Were now moving on or washed up

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 But winding things back a few years
1950 we had no such fears
My mother she worked for the Club
In those days a big sporting hub

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 She shared a back office with Betty
Along with a terrible netty
And everyone’s hope was alive
51, 52, 55

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 But time it stands still for no man
And you can forget that great plan
We were down there in Division 2
Not much of a future in view

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 But whaddya know we came back
With Pop Robson and Supermac
The 60s and 70s were free
With a hint of success under Lee

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 The see-saw it dumped us back down
And folks went about with a frown
We had some bad times with McGarry
An era in which we won’t tarry

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 And going fast-forward substantially
We hit the skids big-time financially
The 80s look better I’m certain
When hidden behind a thick curtain

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 So landing up now in the 90s
There was cause for consumption of pinties
When after a few years of Keegan
It was fast to the Premiership we’re streakin’

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 92 we won 10 on the trot
And deservedly hit the top spot
A magnificent page in the story
Regaining some part of our glory

15 Leave a comment on verse 15 0 Promoted now to milk and honey
It looked we were everyone’s bunny
But Kevin he hit self-destruct
And Ferguson knew we were crocked

16 Leave a comment on verse 16 0 We should have been Champions that season
Don’t ask me I don’t know the reason
For Newcastle’s sudden demise
They folded in front of our eyes

17 Leave a comment on verse 17 0 Late 90s we reached some Cup Finals
But flushed them straight down the urinals
We just took our foot off the pedal
And queued up for that loser’s medal

18 Leave a comment on verse 18 0 And so the great saga continues
With much exercise of the sinews
To bring good times back to the Toon
Let’s hope it’s not later but soon

19 Leave a comment on verse 19 0 So all of you lads and you lasses
I hope you will all raise your glasses
Across all the pubs of the region
Not forgetting the clubs and the Legion

20 Leave a comment on verse 20 0 And join me in wishing the best
To a great Club that’s standing the test
Looking forward to happier times
I dedicate these humble rhymes
