A New Season Dawns

It’s the eve of the season,
Still warm summer rays,
We return full of hope
In the late evening haze.

The pitch now pristine,
Not a blemish or taint,
Even the barriers
Have a new lick of paint.

The manager upbeat,
The chairman waves
At his team elite.

Can we improve this time round?
Will the new boys fit?
They do look the part
In their new shiny kit.

A friendly with Milan;
But we played like dogs
And lost four nil;
