The ‘Strawberry’ pub, just inside the door
A grey haired old geordie
Sits and stares at the floor
The place is packed out It’s always the same
No place for the regulars
Before a big game.
The songs are for Shearer predicting success
Misplaced devotion, the clubs in a mess
And still the grey haired old geordie
Sits and stares at the floor
Yet another messiah, he’s seen them before
And when the games over
They shall return through the door
And like the grey haired old geordie
They’ll sit and stare at the floor.
