Can it Get Any Worse

My team is going down, we’re at the bottom of the league,
Winding up notice served, players not paid, boardroom financial intrigue.
Still, it’s Saturday so the trip across the Pennines must be made,
‘Make yourself a hero’, Neil says, a final chance for a marker to be laid.
Through road closures, traffic chaos, works and driving rain,
But there was no other way for we were told there may not be a train.

Kick off came and it got colder as another formation was tried,
But a woeful first half, and the travel nightmare had me bleary-eyed.
One down, again, and short on ideas the Tigers just couldn’t be tamed,
So if not the boss, the players, the owner or the ref who could be blamed.
Why I wonder when we score none do the other team score one,
When we score one then they score two, and so on and on and on.

End the nightmare, the worry and the stress, take administration,
Take the twelve point hit and with bravery face inevitable relegation.
And in League One start again with young lads who want to play
For the team they were brought up at and with whom they want to stay.
And God help the next owners if they treat the fans this way,
With silence, disdain and even contempt their loyalty to betray.
