A manager opens his mouth to speak,
You think “here it comes; that a tongue in his cheek?”
They try to put spin on every word
But don’t realise that they’re sounding absurd.

“The boy done well” and the cliches roll out,
“We’ve got the right players, but missing the clout”
“I really didn’t see the foul that you mention”
“The atmosphere’s great, you can just cut the tension”

The manager’s handbook is full of cliches,
They all learn to use them for all of their days,
But when, oh when, will a manager say
“We GOT a result, but just not our way”
