Football Through New Eyes

the rain may slant across the hills
the clouds roll black and grey
the forest mist hangs damp and cold
and Spring feels far away
while supermaket shelves are crammed
with eggs and hot-cross buns
and in the nearby country lanes
the die-hards go on runs

I could prepare for marathons
I could re paint the hall
I could sit here and taste the view
and do nothing at all
but Easter brings a welcome break
a chance for something new
to read a book or learn to cook
a brand new meal or two

so why then am I sitting here
among so many others?
it feels as though Ive walked into
a gig with The Blues Brothers
these glasses are so big it’s true
but they feel great to me
I’ve found a new dimension
it’s football in 3D

I’ve fought my way through through training
to make my way this far
I’ve sat through Burton’s Alice
and romped through Avatar
but nothing can express the sight
I stand here like some statue
The ball is almost in the room
It’s like it’s coming at you

and one day in the future
my great grand-child will say
the first goal you watched in 3D
can you recall the day?
and I will turn my ageing head
and search my very soul
to see that 3D back heel flick
by little Joey Cole
