Hillsborough: Twenty Years to Yesterday

No-one can express the sorrow
of those dark days
When tomorrow is replaced
by a loop replay of horror
The future taken away
Your life a whispered name
All the plans you had
Cause grief lozenges in my throat
I remember and I choke
with tears; no sign of drought
A snatch of sound, a fleeting thought
as past and present mix
Shattered minds play well worn tricks
Maybes, ifs, and worst, by nows…
by now…you would have been married
by now I should be moving on
by now…you would have had kids
by now I should have learned to deal with this
… but those images
in stark contrast
bold and underlined
images unfaded by time
surreal
but so real
no more tomorrows
just yesterdays horrors
