How will I survive?

When I was five or six years old,
My cute pet hamster died.
I shed a flood of bitter tears,
But somehow I survived.

I failed O-Level Chemistry,
Which is no cause for pride.
I flunked Geography as well,
Yet nonetheless survived.
¶ 3

A while ago I bought some shares,
Whose value promptly dived.
That hurt, I got my fingers burnt,
But here I am, survived.
¶ 4

I’ve known some setbacks in my time,
Still, always I’ve got by,
Through trying to remain upbeat,
And look on the bright side.

Now gloomy thoughts swarm round my mind,
Like bees around a hive.
The Football Season’s reached its end,
And that’s enough to drive
¶ 6

Me round the bend with wondering
How I’ll fill up my time,
And not be plunged into despair,
Or drift off into crime.
¶ 7

Not one League match the whole of June,
Nor any in July!
A spell as barren as the moon,
Oh, how will I survive?
