I Could Be You

I’ve always loved rivalry and debate.
But I’ve never felt the need to hate.
Laugh at your rivals and banter is fine.
But it’s just a game, don’t cross the line.
We are all similar people, deep inside.
All fans wear their colours with pride.
Be that colour red, white, black or blue.
Strip away my colour, and I could be you.
Scoff at your rivals, rejoice at their plight.
But don’t be reduced to hateful spite.
I am 66 now…travelled home and away.
And I saw enough hatred back in the day.
Just sing your heart out, be the 12th man.
No need to hate your fellow football fan.
